Travel Stipends
Through the generosity of our sponsors, the AIB-SE Executive Board is pleased to offer a limited number of travel stipends for students and scholars from select regions to assist with expenses related to attending the AIB US Southeast 2017 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Please find the relevant information below in the respective section for each award. If you’re not eligible for one of these categories, we regret to inform you that no other financial support is available through AIB-SE for this year’s conference. This year we plan to award:

  • Doctoral Student Travel Stipends
  • Undergraduate/Master’s Student Travel Stipends
  • Area Scholar Fellowships

Doctoral  Student Travel Stipends

These stipends are available for full-time Ph.D. students who plan to attend the Doctoral Consortium and have a paper accepted for presentation at the meeting.

A single application process will be utilized for all doctoral stipends. Recipients of the stipends will be expected to assist the conference organizers for up to ten hours during the conference with various logistical tasks.

Applications for travel stipends will be accepted only through the online application process below.

  • a one-page letter of application for funds detailing your need and including your full contact information, and institutional affiliation.
  • a one-page bio or resume

The deadline for applications will be September 8th, 2017.

Undergraduate/Master’s Student Travel Stipends

These stipends are available for full-time students who have a paper accepted for presentation at the meeting or will participate in the X-Culture student competition.

A single application process will be utilized for all stipends. Recipients of the stipends will be expected to assist the conference organizers for about ten hours during the conference with various logistical tasks.

Area Scholar Fellowships

The Executive Board is pleased to announce the availability of a very limited number of Area Scholar Fellowships for faculty. For 2017, Area Scholar Fellowships will be available to faculty members from countries that are traditionally under-represented in our membership, with particular emphasis to applicants from Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Central Asia. The fellowship comprises:

  • One free or reduced conference registration for the 2017 Conference OR
  • A stipend of up to US$500 to help defray travel and hotel expenses
